SAP Architecture Learning Center: Reference Architectures for SAP and Agentic AI

Today I discovered the SAP Architecture Learning Center at architecture.learning.sap.com/docs/ref-arch — a curated library of reference architectures showing how SAP applications and AI technologies can be combined and deployed in standardized, proven patterns.

The Problem

Enterprise SAP landscapes are notoriously complex. When introducing new capabilities — especially AI — teams face a recurring question: how should this fit into our existing architecture? Without established patterns, every project reinvents the wheel, with varying quality and alignment to SAP best practices.

The Solution

The SAP Architecture Learning Center provides reference architectures: standardized templates that document how SAP applications, cloud services, and AI technologies connect and interact. Each reference architecture:

  • Defines the components involved and their relationships
  • Shows integration patterns across SAP BTP, S/4HANA, AI Core, and other services
  • Provides guidance for common scenarios like intelligent document processing, agentic workflows, and data platforms
  • Helps teams align new projects to proven, SAP-endorsed blueprints

Why This Matters

Reference architectures are a force multiplier for enterprise teams. Instead of debating foundational design decisions on every project, teams can start from a vetted baseline and focus energy on what’s unique to their situation. With SAP heavily investing in AI (Joule, AI Core, agent frameworks), having official templates that show where AI fits in an SAP landscape is genuinely useful for architects and decision-makers navigating these choices.
